Description
Security Officers renewing their SIA licence must now complete the Security Guard Refresher Course. This training is a legal requirement for continuing to work in the security industry and ensures that licence holders remain up to date with current risks, responsibilities, and best practice.
We appreciate that taking time off is difficult, as such we utilise blended learning to reduce your time in centre. To comply with SIA regulations you will need to complete an e-learning course prior to attending, this reduces your time in centre by a full day. A link to this e-learning will be sent to you via email.
In addition, learners attending the refresher course must hold a valid Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certificate, as first aid knowledge is now a required element of the updated training standards. If you do not currently hold a valid First Aid qualification, you will need to complete this before or alongside your refresher training. You can add this on here.
The Security Guard Refresher Course is designed to update your knowledge, reinforce essential safety skills, and ensure you meet the latest SIA licensing requirements when renewing your licence.
Course Summary
Candidates must be 18 and over
SIA Top-Up Upskilling training is now part of every security professional’s career. It’s a step beyond simple skill refresher courses.
The new changes introduced to SIA Licensing in April 2021have become a central part of daily life for security professionals. Licensed security professionals are now required to take Top-Up Upskill Training to make sure they have this knowledge when renewing their SIA Licence.
Mastering these new skills means you’re able to better protect the public, property, and yourself. With SIA Top-Up Training, you’re honing your skills, while keeping people safe against new risks as they emerge.
The course takes 1 day to complete, running from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
You will sit two multiple choice exams.
It is important to note that Security Guard license holders cannot work in licensed premises.
Course Content
Unlike Door Supervisor Top-Up Training, your course will only take 1 day. Besides EFAW training, you’ll cover:
Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry
Principles of Minimising Personal Risk for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry
These are the topics you’ll be assessed on by your training instructor. You need a pass rate of about 70% in both of these topics to pass the course, and you’ll show your new skills with practical assessments and by completing a few multiple choice exams.
Overall, your Security Guard Top-Up Training is nothing to worry about. But remember, by taking a day of your time to do it now, you’re potentially saving a lot of hassle and possible interruptions to your working life when renewing your SIA Licence later.
