SIA Security Guard Training Course

The Security Officer Course is typically completed over 5 days. During the course, you will learn the skills and knowledge required to work legally and effectively as a Security Officer in a variety of environments.

No previous experience is required. The course is designed for beginners looking to start a career in the security industry, as well as those seeking a recognised qualification to improve their employment prospects.

A Security Officer Licence can lead to roles in retail security, office and corporate security, warehouse security, construction site security, gatehouse duties, and other manned guarding positions throughout the UK.

Current SIA requirements may require learners to hold a valid Emergency First Aid at Work qualification before attending certain security training courses. Please check the course details or contact us for the latest requirements.

Security Officer salaries vary depending on location, employer, and experience. Many entry-level positions start from around £12 per hour, with opportunities to increase earnings through experience, overtime, and specialist roles.

Once you have successfully completed the course and passed the assessments, you can apply for your SIA Security Officer Licence. After receiving your licence, you can begin applying for security roles across the UK.

If you’re new to the security industry, one of the most common questions is whether to choose the Security Officer Course or the Door Supervisor Course. Both qualifications can lead to rewarding careers, but they suit different types of roles.

A Security Officer Licence is ideal if you want to work in environments such as offices, warehouses, retail stores, construction sites, business parks, hospitals, or gatehouse security. The role focuses on protecting people, property, and assets while maintaining a safe and secure environment.

A Door Supervisor Licence provides broader opportunities because it allows you to work in licensed premises such as pubs, bars, clubs, and events, as well as many of the roles available to Security Officers. This is why many learners choose the Door Supervisor qualification as it offers greater flexibility when applying for jobs.

If your goal is to maximise your employment opportunities within the security industry, the Door Supervisor Course is often the preferred option. However, if you specifically want to work in static guarding, retail security, or corporate environments, the Security Officer Course can be an excellent starting point.
